What is a DTF printer and how to use it?

The DTF PET film printer is a revolutionary new printing technology. With DTF, you can transfer designs onto 100% cotton shirts without any pre-treatment, saving significant time and money compared to DTG. DTF uses far less ink than DTG, and the prints are washable—offering a better feel than laser toner transfers that require rasterization.

Compared to DTG, screen printing, sublimation, or laser white toner transfer, DTF is more affordable and easier to access. DTF requires only a printer, specialized DTF inks, DTF hot-melt powder, and DTF transfer film.

What is a DTF PET Film Printer?

The emergence of DTF has significantly impacted the digital printing market. Machines that once required multiple printing steps have now been simplified. Previously, several machines had to work together; today, just one DTF PET film printer and a heat press are sufficient for full operation.

Earlier non-cotton printing machines, which could only print on polyester and spandex, severely limited fabric options. When manufacturers sourced garments from different suppliers, their material requirements varied widely and were often strict. This made it difficult to meet demands with just one machine, thereby increasing machinery investment costs.

The advent of the DTF PET film printer has greatly benefited large-scale manufacturers and numerous aspiring entrepreneurs. The purchase cost of a single machine is not high, yet its performance is outstanding.

DTF PET Film Printer Technical Principle

Previously, Korean-style heat transfer printing, which was dominant in the market, could no longer meet the demands of mainstream customers. Now, a faster and more efficient process is required. This is where the DTF PET film printer comes in. The machine operates by applying a special hot-melt powder onto the transfer film, allowing the printing material to penetrate into the fabric through a bonding agent that melts under heat, creating a strong adhesive bond. This technology integrates offset printing and inkjet printing techniques closely, forming a unique process based on transfer printing.

With this technical principle, printing is no longer limited to specific fabric types. It can now be applied freely to various materials—whether pure cotton, blended fabrics, polyester, spandex, or any stretchable textiles.

How to Use a DTF PET Film Printer

First, design your desired image and save it to your computer for printing. Prepare the necessary consumables: ink, hot-melt powder, and PET film, placing them in their designated positions. Operate the control panel to automatically print, dust off, dry, and rewind the film—all processes handled automatically during operation. Finally, cut the printed film and transfer it using a heat press.

This method enables transfers onto masks, canvas bags, T-shirts, jeans, leather, silk, and virtually any other material you wish to print on. There are no color limitations; regardless of the garment's original color, we can successfully apply the design. Moreover, the transfer results are excellent, with real customer feedback confirming high quality and reliability.

Advantages of Printed Products

The BW brand offers a range of DTF PET film printers with optional configurations, print heads, and varying print widths. With diverse functions beyond imagination, the product continues to evolve and improve. Over time, it significantly reduces labor requirements, delivering true value through one-time investment with lifelong benefits.

Whether printing on dress shirts, T-shirts, or any fabric you choose, you’ll notice vibrant colors, sharp and detailed color gradations, and photo-realistic reproduction. The designs clearly showcase intricate patterns and visual effects.

No matter what garment you print on, you can safely try hand washing or machine washing. After washing tests, examine the printed pattern by stretching or observing it closely. The prints resist fading, cracking, and stretching, achieving a colorfastness rating of 4–5.

Most importantly, as international environmental standards become increasingly stringent, our products truly deliver zero waste emissions and no air bubbles. They are eco-friendly, breathable, and comfortable to wear, fully compliant with SGS green environmental standards.
